I recently purchased an Al-KO hitch lock (TYPE 1 ET1811202) for our AL-KO AKS 2004/3004. It won't fit over the hitch because the main bolt seems too long, here's a picture.
The second bolt at the back is missing!
Does anyone know if you can buy replaecemnt bolts or get the specs so I can get them from somewhere else ?
The bolt that is missing in the picture is the one that retains the spring and damper (draw bar) therefore it will be a bigger job than just inserting a new nut and bolt as the draw bar will most likely be visible inside the bolt hole. You need a kit with a steel dowel to retain the damper but that will be the difficult part of pulling the damper back now which may be bent or damaged. It sounds like someone has bodged it up by putting just one bolt in just to hold it in place so basically the Alko hitch and draw bar need checking and re-setting up again. With the damper not correctly positioned the caravan brakes will fail to operate which is of course dangerous to say the least.
The hitch appears to be fitted to a BPW chassis so one horizontal fixing bolt & one vertical bolt unlike Al-ko chassis which uses the 2 horizontal bolt holes. So no problem with actual hitch fitting but being fitted to a BPW chassis might be what is causing lock not to fit. Is lock fouling vertical or horizontal bolt?
Thanks very much gents, really appreciated. Tentz how could you tell from that pic, it is indeed BPW chassis (not that I knew until i just looked!) just to be sure I've posted a couple more pics.
If I take the horizontal bolt out the lock fits, I will try and get a slimmer nut and trim the length of the bolt.
I could tell it was BPW chassis by the hitch bolts, ie one horizontal, one vertical. The horizontal bolt used does look like the correct type, Does the other end have a normal hex head or is it spline socket type fitted to later hitches? Are you sure your lock is for that hitch & not the smaller AKS 1300 hitch?

I didn't know that there were different fixing locations on the Alko hitch for different chassis', I thought they all bolted on the same way with two horizontally opposed nuts and bolts. I take it then that the single rear vertical bolt on the BPW chassis functions exactly the same as the Alko chassis' horizontal fixing regarding the retaining of the draw bar? If this is the case then my first post is totally incorrect and apologise for this mis-information but it's been an educational lesson for me anyway and amazing how we never stop learning.
Yes the Al-ko hitch has the vertical hole to allow fitting to BPW chassis but usually BPW chassis are fitted with Winterhof stabilizer hitches from new. The Al-ko would probably have been fitted later replacing a non stabilizer hitch.
just a thought some al-ko hitches are not designed to fit BPW hitch bars.possibly why the bolt is missing and as said could cause faulty braking on the caravan.
This item is not suitable for a 45mm shaft.
May not be suitable for use with overrun devices which can revolve above 25° or BPW overruns fitted with gas strut handbrakes from 2001 model year onwards.
------------- the only silly question is the one you do not ask.
Thanks for all the replies. I just had another look at the hitch lock and the opposite to the nut side seems to have a raised area, possibly to allow for the protrusion. I will try and turn the the bolt the other way, see if it fits, will still be tight I think.
