We are looking for a replacement for our Jeep Grand Cherokee, now 10 years old and although it has been a wonderfully capable, tough tow vehicle with loads of stowage space it is becoming very tempermental and occasionally loses its memory( computor) . All very costly as well as being unreliable.

We are'nt sure whether we really need another 4x4 and are not going for brand new again.  We thinking BMW, Mercedes, Ford Mondeo, Toyota - Honda would be an obvious choice for us, as we already have a little Honda  'run- about' which is so reliable, the CRV however is'nt really weighty enough for our Senator.

We would be so grateful for some advice here as we have'nt had a change of towcar for such a long time and it is'nt like just choosing just any new car.

As the above post says you won't go wrong with an ML Mercedes.But i tow with an ML270 cdi.  And it tows my Bailey california with ease. This is a diesel model and the year is a 51 plate which are available for very little money on Ebay.

I find it very good on fuel and the road tax is very reasonable and of course it is a Merc so is very smooth and quiet to drive and  have never got stuck in muddy fields or in the snow. I had the engine remapped and boy hold on to your hat as does it go.Dont think you would regret buying one. But as it is a Mercedes if it does go wrong they are expensive to repair.

Thankyou so much for all your advice and suggestions we have taken it all on board and intend  having a serious look around after Christmas - you really are a lovely helpful bunch.

Is anyone towing with a Kia Sorrento?  If so we would love the benefit of your experience please.  Someone has highly recommended it but not from a caravaners' angle.
