My CRV is shortly to come out of warranty and I need to sort out a Breakdown/Recovery Service. I need, homestart, full recovery/onward destination/return and also cover for towing a van in the UK. Ideally, the company will also give me the option of extending to contental trips as and when needed.
Tesco (my insurer) wants and addditional £85 for this cover, (excluding the van) which seems a bit steep.
I always have Mayday cover via the Caravan Club although I am sure the C&CC version is as good. I pay £62 a year without Homestart. ADAC might be another one to look at but not sure if the do Homestart.
Most reasonably priced recovery cover includes recovery of caravan provided it is being towed at the time, but not all, so read small print. You normally pay for a years cover at the level you want, ie including continental. £85 upwards would be reasonable for this, some cover only 30 days abroad, others 60 or 90 days & the dearer ones cover all year.
Green Flag seem to be reasonably priced at the moment, check their website.
Depends if you just want cover if teh car breaks down and they can tow the caravan. Or do you want cover just in case the caravan breaks down.
If something happens to the caravan and it cannot be towed standard breakdown does not cover it.
It would be classed as commercial recovery and very costly.
I prefer Green Flag as it is cheaper than the CC Mayday service and we get 2 cars covered for £82. But if you apply through Topcashback.co.uk there is £25 cashback! At £57 it is very good value for full UK cover for 2 cars.
I read this on a car forum where if you continue to have your CRV serviced by Honda they will sometimes offer free breakdown although this could be at the dealers discretion, could be worth enquiring. Another option, although a bit pricey, is to buy the Honda extended warranty for one or two years which includes AA European cover. My local dealer will do this at cost and 0% over 10 months. It's about £450 two years and £280 for one. I think AA cover alone is over £100 per year.
