Hi, we are just getting into caravans and would like to know if my astra 1.6sxi 2001 hatchback can tow a caravan?

It will tow a small one, less than a tonne. If you don't want to spend too much, a 2 berth of about 12ft body length, late 80s/early 90s will be what you want, ebay is usually cheapest place to buy.

Caravan with a gross laden weight of 1000kg, Beware sellers that give you the unladen weight.

You will need to use the gears more and anticipate hills. Even on the motorway you may need to drop a gear or two.

Petrol cars produce their power higher up the rev range so need the revs to be up there. Not all the way to the red line but 4000 - 4500rpm maybe.

We are selling our little 1991 Elddis Wisp 350/2. Its on the free adverts page but no photos yet. Great basic little caravan to get started with, 690kgs I believe unladen and 780kgs mgw which is the same as MTPLM (max loaded weight).

We used to tow it with an R reg Peugeot 1.6 petrol manual.
