      just changed my towcar to volvo v50 d5 auto,has anybody installed uprated rear

      springs on one of these cars.i have been using an  e320 mercedes for the last 7

      years which had self levelling suspension and am a bit worried that the volvo

     springs may not be up to the job.

I have the Volvo V50 D5 2.4 diesel except mine is the six speed manual gearbox version. I changed from a Ford Focus estate to the Volvo V50 merely because it's a better towcar regarding kerbweight and pulling power. I have towed my caravan about 4 times with the V50 and haven't found a problem with the rear suspension at all but what you have to take into consideration is that the official towball weight for the V50 is 75 kgs. so the rear springs are up to the job providing you use a noseweight gauge and keep the caravan noseweight as near to 75 kgs, as possible otherwise it could put excess compression on the rear springs. Hope this information helps.

As above if you stay within the limits the suspension will be fine.

Check your cars max noseweight and do not exceed that.
But also keep an eye on how much load you put on the rear suspension. So load the car correctly.

i understand the rear suspension bushes need to be replaced quite often on the V50 otherwise you can get rapid tyre wear. I've never towed but driven a v50 1.8 petrol and now a V50 2.0D loaded up with roofbox and camping gear and found it to be very stable although the 1.8 petrol had no go whatsoever. I have my car serviced at an independent Volvo specialist in Connah's Quay and have been very pleased with the service offered.

I uprated my V70 much less bouncy bouncy, but original springs should be fine as mentioned above.

Well noticed but I just tried to be polite. I know exactly what you mean though and it appears that no word of thanks or token of appreciation was offered on the OP's previous questions either. However the majority on here do at least post a final comment thanking everyone for the replies as to whether they were useful or not as it costs nothing just to say thanks.

    thanks for the replies to my recent enquiry.the delay in replying was no way intended

    to offend, but with hospital visits for myself,and the sudden death of my best friend

   i have had other things on my mind.

No problem and no offence taken either but I do fully understand about losing your best friend as I lost my best friend about 7 years ago at the age of 49 and very difficult to come to terms with even now. Hope everything goes okay with the Volvo anyway and that the hospital visits are not too serious.
