At 1490kg and 4x4's are not an option, you are very limited if you stick to the 85% rule.
You need a car with a kerb weight around the 1750kg mark which you will find with new cars is very rare.

I'd be interested to see the weight ratio of the outfit. I very briefly looked at a Mondeo Estate Titanium X last year and thought it might be a bit near the knuckle for our Pegasus, though I'm sure there's power aplenty
I drive the 140 TIT X hatchback and tow a 1500kg coachman with it, the car comes in on a weight bridge at 1705kg the estate is 20 kg heavier, tows the coachman a dream
