All new caravans only have a 13 pin plug. If a car is fitted with a 13 pin and the caravan has two 7 pin, then an adaptor can be bought. The 13 pin is obviously the way to go.
If you order a factory fit towbar from Skoda/VW, you will get a 13pin socket on the car, but it is only wired for the caravan road lighting and no extra wiring for the caravan supply / battery / fridge, you need to check this with Toyota.

As the Toyota is a quality car, the extra wiring will probably be standard!
If you are ordering the car ensure 'fully wired 13 pin socket' is put on the paperwork. Some oe looms are 1 loom for the lighting & a second loom for the extra connections required for caravan battery charging & fridge etc. Ie car comes with 13pin socket but is wired only for trailer/caravan road lights as pointed out in previous post.
As stated modern caravans come with 13pin plug & a fully wired 13pin is required unless you are ok with just caravan road lights working. However the confusion arises because dealers do not understand that the old type 7pin 12n is being replaced by half wired 13pin, ie 13pin configuration but only wired for 7pin trailer operation with extra loom required for full 13pin caravan operation.
I would be rather miffed if the car came with the wrong socket. If they only tow a small trailer or older caravan they will want a 7 pin socket or both S and N sockets.
My customer doesn't know, so I told him I would check the most common and get the Hi-Lux with that on it. I'll double check the 13 pin connector has a full or basic loom tomorrow.
If the Hilux is being used as a workhorse I'd go with the old style 7 pins as most trailers have those. I have an L200 with a single 7 pin socket, and use a simple adaptor on my van to step down from the van's 13 pin to my 7 pin. I leave the adaptor permanently on the van.
To do it the other way round is messy as the adaptor to step up from a 7 pin to 13 pin socket is usually a short section of loom with the different connectors on each end. This necessitates taking it off after using it each time.

No short bit of loom - just a tidy connector. I'd get a 13 pin socket fitted as this will be the most common fitting going forward - old 7 pins will become redundant.

I would think any factory fitted tow bar will now have 13 pin electrics but only the basic wiring for lights. Certainly the case with VAG cars. If your customer has a caravan you will need to get the dealer to price up adding the extra 'vehicle specific' loom for his or her caravan electrics. And as has been stated above if they have an old caravan or trailer you will need an adaptor, you can get single or twin adaptor now without the extra length of cable. Very neat.

Hope that makes sense and helps!
Simpler to have 13 pin and buy an adaptor if necessary.
