Is it legal for a French registered vehicle to tow a uk based caravan in the UK? The caravan, stored in the UK, is not registered in France so cannot be towed there with a French vehicle i.e. live in France but want to use UK based caravan in UK with French Vehicle.

You will need to speak to the insurer of your French reg car. If you would be voiding your insurance by towing illegally in France with an unregistered caravan then it would probably be same if you were towing caravan in any other country, ie UK. If your French insurance was void because of towing non French reg caravan then you would not be legal in UK.

Provided your car insurer ok'ed you to tow UK 'van in UK then you would be ok to tow in UK.

It would be dependent on how French car insurance works. For example in UK car insurance covers for 3rd party risks while towing & there is no legal requirement for separate trailer/caravan insurance. However if France requires separate caravan ins by law then the same would apply in UK or any other country while towing with French reg car. UK caravan insurance usually does not cover 3rd party risks while towing as it is covered by UK car ins.
