We want breakdown cover for the car and van.

But we don't want to join a camping or caravan club, as they don't appeal to us.

They nearly all harp on, join us and get free membership to XYZ, or vise versa. 17

Who would you recommend for car and van cover?

Spotted RAC, they any good?

The AA, RAC or Green flag, if you break down while towing and they cannot fix it by the roadside they will also tow your van as well

Your car insurance will also offer breakdown cover & might be your cheapest option, just ensure they will recover car & caravan together when coupled up.

The breakdown cover generally wont cover the caravan IF the caravan breaks down or you have an accident that renders it untowable.

If the car breaks down they will tow your caravan to the garage or destination, Depending on cover.

But if the caravan cannot be towed you are not covered.

This is where the clubs come into it. Not sure what deal they have but its not that expensive.
£30 or £40 a year membership.

Haggle on the price with the breakdown company also.

Think I might join a club now 17, just for the kinds of cover offered.

Greenflags' Mayday cover seems the cheapest compared to the others - even their 'Premium' cover compared to the others.

Do they cover the caravan in the event the caravan breaks down? What would happen if your caravan is on site and the car breaks down while you are out and about and the car cannot be repaired locally?
Will the Britannia breakdown company take you back to the site, come back at a latter date, collect the car and the caravan and take you all home and then take the car to a local garage in your home town?

You could join one of the clubs online and immediately cancel during your cooling off period. Once the application is processed, you can get the breakdown cover which lasts for a year.

I was told by one of the clubs when my membership lapsed that my breakdown cover would remain, but that I "may" be unable to renew it without rejoining (I have since renewed my membership, but didn't see the point in renewing until I wanted to use the clubs services)

Somehow, I don't see the RAC or Green Flag checking your membership of the relevant club or turning your custom away when it comes to renewal and if it's done by direct debit then it probably gets processed automatically.
