We took out Breakdown Repair Cover from the AA. It's not quite a warranty, but it only costs us £5 per month (with some haggling). Provided you call out the AA first (membership required) the BRC covers you for parts and labour at a garage of your choice including main dealer. There is a £35 excess. It doesn't cover service items unless they fail between services.
We've had to use it for a faulty EGR valve and a faulty battery in the last year, so definitely got our money's worth.
Personally I wouldn't bother with an aftermarket warranty as I've heard so many horror stories about people trying to claim with great difficulty. They are very expensive too.

like that may give them a ring.do you have a tel number please?
------------- the only silly question is the one you do not ask.
agree with the above , plus you usually have to have it religiously serviced for the warranty to be valid.
best to service it yourself where possible , oil / filters etc and put some money away each month into a repair fund if needed.
thats how i do it anyhow
I had one of these warranties when I bought an Astra in May last year about 6 weeks after buying the car the clutch went in it and also needed a new flywheel so rung the warrenty company and told them the problem with the car and they told me I had to pay for a garage to diagnose the fault and for the garage to send them the information which I had already told them and if they accepted then I would have to pay for the job to be done and they would paye back, after hearing this I googled the company and they don't even cover the clutch and the horror stories about them not paying I would not ever even bother with companies like that and would advise anybody against these companies,
My advise is if you were going to pay into one off these rip off companies to do a lot of research 1st
The AA deal mentioned by others is an entirely different thing.
I sold a car once to a guy who put it on a warranty. He came back 12 months later. The semi auto box had packed up and the service history was missing a stamp a few years earlier. His warranty provider was using this as an excuse not to pay even though it was irrelevant to the failure.
If you are thinking of the AA Breakdown Repair Cover and was also thinking of servicing the vehicle yourselves, have a look at the T&C's of the policy, as you need to have it garage serviced for as long as you have the policy and it excludes anything they class as wear and tear.
Our car came with one of these warranties and I certainly won't renew it when it comes up. The only time I've spoken to the company they said I had to take it to their approved garage for any repair (and as we're in a rural area I've no idea how far away that would have turned out to be) - if I wanted my usual local guys to do it the garage would have to ring them after they had diagnosed the problem and get the work approved (you try to get a garage to do that!) and then they would only pay labour rate of I think it was £39 an hour which is about half of what my garage charges I think. And that's ssuming the problem fell within what they cover anyway. A waste of money I feel if you're paying to buy the warranty yourself.
On the other hand, if it's extending the manufacturer's warranty on a car that you bought from new and the work will still be carried out by the same garage there might be a point, but personally I would still prefer myself to pay for things as I need it.
I used to work in a garage and a few of our customers who had problems with their car which was under warranty looked into making a claim. We went through the documentation for them and basically nothing is covered that could conceivably wear out.
In summary, brakes, clutches, dual mass fly wheels, batteries, starter motors, alternators, injectors and tyres are all excluded, as are things that are accidentally damaged. Basically whats left are things that never fail.
Bev+Jon, I do my own servicing too started doing it after a main dealer garage wrecked a gearbox while fitting a clutch, still hurts today whan I think about it!
Guess these after market warranty companies aren't worth it after all....
Guess I will just put a bit away for if / when something does go wrong.
