Hi,

Just after a bit of guidance from you kind people,I have recently Purchased a set of "Suck it and See" Towing Mirrors, Well pleased with them to be honest.

I just wondered,Which side of the Car the Convex Mirror should go?? I have been using it on the Passenger side Wing Mirror??? Is this the Correct Side?? I find that I can see, and use the Flat Mirror,Which is on the Drivers side, much better??

Hope this all makes sense??

Thanks In advance

Stu

I have only ever used flat mirrors but I would think that the convex one is best where you have it on the nearside.

The convex mirror would presumably give better vision particularly when driving abroad.

The convex mirror provides more distance therefore can sometimes be deceiving whereas the flat mirror gives more of an accurate distance behind so the way you have them at present I would say is correct. Vehicles overtake on the offside so the flat mirror is more beneficial and the convex distant mirror is mainly to see any cyclists or pedestrians on the nearside and helps to see any vehicles entering the motorway via the slip road.

I would have said the convex should go on the drivers side, so that it reduces any blind spots. More important on that side than the passenger side which, due to your viewpoint, is easily covered by a smaller turn of the head.

Not much help but I have convex on both side. Personally would not use suck it and see mirrors because then can't use the car mirrors as back-ups.

So you now have conflicting answers from both myself and saftlad so the best idea is to fix the towing mirrors on the best way that suits you as it's obvious that some have different views .......(excuse the pun).

With he suck it and see mirrors, how do you make them stick? Mine seem to have problems... i try varying ways of sticking them there; Moistening them, drying them cleaning the mirrors...

Like David Klyne, I won't give up the two standard mirrors, so can't use the stick on ones.

Convex should go on the drivers side, this should reduce the blind spots and allow you to see all three lanes of a three lave motorway. So if you are manouvering from lane one to lane two and some one in lane three is manouvering to lane two you will be able to see them.

I will also agree with the other posters that say it is better to keep you original mirrors in use as well.

Steve

My car has convex mirrors on both sides.
I wasn't aware but my last set of towing mirrors were also both convex, as they were over 15 years old I had simply forgotten!

But having tried some convex milenco aeros I didn't like them, so exchanged them for some grand aero flat mirrors, now I have problems focusing on the nearside mirror.

So yesterday I paid £20 (milenco are around £55)for some steady view mirrors, really pleased with these mirrors, they have both clamp and strap, along with a safety lanyard just in case the worst happens.

http://milencolimited.vpweb.co.uk/Products.html

Convex on the passenger side, and flat on the drivers side works for me.

That's been my experience with anything that's attached with rubber suckers.
Sooner or later the d at mn thing will fall off - just when you least expect it, and at the worst possible moment.
