I am considering a duster as our new vehicle, seeing how you guys have got on since this post started. Probably go for the 4x4 version Ambience or Laureate due to it can tow 1500kg.

Cheers in advance.

Hi Biff0r, I have the Duster Ambience but if I was going for another, it would be the Laureate. The reason I went for the Ambience was that I thought the rear electric windows could not be turned off from the front, but they can.
Anyways, just personal choice.

You say that it has a 1500kg towing capacity, which it has, but you should still stick to the 85% car kerb weight rule.

Also, if you intend towing a caravan, the 13 pin socket on the towbar comes fitted with Lights Only and you will have to get your dealer to fit the caravan supply.
Also, check that the towbar bolts to the chassis are properly torqued. We didn't and nearly lost our van.

Overall, we are very pleased with the Duster, for the price and over one year on we have had no problems except those mentioned.

Thanks for the update, I assume they just provide the 13 pin? (I have the older 2 x 7 pins)

Did you get the towing pack added at start or from a third party company afterwards?

Thanks again

Yes I got the towing kit which came with the 13 pin.

Shortly after we got the car we bought a s/h caravan and it was when we got a caravan engineer out to check the van before we towed it anywhere, it was him that noticed that the electrics on the car were for road lights only.
Apparently this is normal for foreign cars to only be wired for lights only and it is then up to the new owner to fit the 12s side of things.

My van is 12s and 12n and so I use an adapter.
I have other trailers so I am loathed to change the van to the 13 pin set up.

By the by, although my car is now 14 months old, I have only just hit the 6000 mile mark with probably about 500 miles of that towing.

Some Dacia Duster kerb weights are quoted as empty and some as "with driver and half a tank of fuel".

Our rig comes in at the manufactured weight of the car with the loaded van at 85%.

The fact that we have the extra pulling power if we should need it, will get us out of any muddy field and gives us "peace of mind" if nothing else.

You will not regret it Biff0r.

The only downside I have had with my Dacia was the 3 month wait for it to arrive.

How long have they given you for delivery?

i would recomend AC for winter motoring, clears your widscrean in seconds on those cold frosty morninggs, even if you just turn it on to clear screen then back off again.

Got to wait till mid December for arrival, which now does seem a longtime. After convincing myself that the idea of the car was it can be as basic as you want at a good price and just add what you want, at the showroom I decided to go for the top spec with a few extras on.......

The Qasquai that was there actually had a lower towing at 1400kg so was surprised at that......

Oh well Biff0r, that will give you plenty of time to find a caravan with a suitable towing ratio.
