Have just got a Honda CR-V 2007 and need a towbar fitted can you clever people in the now please let me now which is best to fit horizintal or vertical detachable and why and which is the best one. Thanks
Honda detachable with twin electrics is around £700, (fitted by honda dealer)detachable witter from independent fitter with twin electrics and relay should be around £520-£550
So £500 sounds very very expensive to me. Had a read of the instructions and it doesnt seem to be a difficult one.
The prices I quoted are fitted not DIY and include the bypass relay to deactivate the reversing sensors when caravan is attached, this costs in the region of £130 to £199 and is Honda specific. Labour time is 4 hours as specified by Honda as it involves running a circuit from the battery to the rear of the car for charging and fridge. This necessitates the removal of several trim panels. Labour time of 4 hours was also quoted by our local experienced tow bar and trailer centre. The labour will thus be anything between £200 and £300
I went to a main dealer to have a genuine bar/13pin electrics fitted and came away with wiring for a trailer! I should have said apparently if I wanted to tow a caravan!!!!! So additional appointment and cost of accessory wiring loom. Few weeks later read in a caravan club article that similar had happened to their contributor...and HE now recommends going to a specialist fitter not a main dealer. THE genuine Tow bar was apparently provided by witter and that is shedding it's paint after a couple of years. A lack of primer or adhesion. A three inch section will flake off any time. Not impressed.
I've just booked my Peugeot 508 SW in for a towbar next week. £510 inclusive of vat, this includes the dedicated wiring kit required to maintain the warranty and to also allow the electonics gubbins between the car and the alko atc to talk to each other.
