We have a Coachman Atlantia 550/5 (also know as a Amara), used it really for when parents stay over as we live next to a caravan site. (only toed once to Forest of Dean, mostly camped around Europe) We are looking at changing vehicle, just wondering if anyone could advise on best vehicle to go for to tow the Van.

Coachman plate states: 1577Kg (MTPLM) and 1386 (MRO) I have looked on towcar but never seem to be bale to match anything.

Was looking at a Kia Sportage around 2006 plate, look forward to some advice.

I should mention that I passed driving test after 1997 so will have to obey the 3,500Kg rule or pass my +E test.

With a van that heavy your going to struggle.

You want a car with a gross laden weight of 1922kg or less.

But with an unladen kerbweight in excess of 1577kg.

So you need a car that weighs 1578kg or more but cannot carry people or luggage in excess of 345kg.

Sportage

You will need to take the towing test. Or find a smaller van.

Honda CRV 2.2 CDTi manual will do the job (MK3, ie without the spare on the door) will tow 2000kgs, will be towing around 92-95% though. X trail will also be OK but is a bit lighter than CR V (if you are looking a 4x4 s). Make sure you keep to te 3500 kg rule as max gross weight of CRV is around 2150 kgs

So Sportage will tow but will need to take test? If that is case I will still go ahead with the purchase and do test later in year, hang onto the S-Max if needed.

All of them still puts them over the limit with that caravan though.

I doubt there is a car thats heavy enough to tow it and also below the gross limit required.

It's not what it weighs, it works off maximum plated weight.

Time for a test.

Sorry Bob, I meant a driving test.

Let me add that your tireless work on behalf of Skoda is excellent.
I'm converted, and I believe Skoda Is now an excellent brand.i don't think there's a model that will tow my 1800kg caravan though.

Otherwise I wouldn't object to having a Skoda.

Jim
