One of the lights on my trailer needs replacing, it has been damaged and taped up as a temporary measure for longer than it should have been and the elements have finally claimed it.
The "normal bulb" type units are cheap and nasty but are already fitted and until damaged did give fairly reliable service. I have seen some LED units that will fit the space and while not being ridiculously expensive are four times the price and I would need to replace both lights.
Has anyone any experience of LED trailer lights? Are they trouble free and how long do they last?
The trailer has a hard life when used ( rough lanes, wet, muddy conditions) but can then be parked up for six months so possible corrosion is a reality and what finished off the light on it now.
LEDs are fairly trouble free. they don't get anywhere near as hot as conventional halogen bulbs, so that in itself should make them last longer. Just don't go for led headlights as they won't be bright enough.

Do they come with resistors or similar to make the bulb failure work properly?
You might only need that type if you have the canbus system on your car VW Audi group have, but not for any trailer of caravan, I have replaced all the bulbs on my Bailey ranger, the small white ones that mark the height and width of the van stand out much better.
I am going to replace all the internal lights with them this year.
They also dont use as much power to oporate so those who just charge there batteys for the weekend should save some power
Never had any problems just changed all the lights outside the van plugged it in to test connected to the superb, no bulb out warning on the dash everything worked as it should
I hadn't thought about the potential warning light problem, it has a mind of its own with this trailer anyway. The left indicator it only flashes once even though it is working, any other trailer I plug in it flashes properly. It works ok for the right side. Never found out why.
mine doest detect a trailer for the dash tell tale if it just has LED lighting.
I have actually used it to my advantage, and added some LED supplementary lighting to the back of the landrover.
this has worked 2 fold, its added just enough load for the tell tale to now work if im towing an LED lit trailer, and its still fine with conventional lighting.
