We're due to set off shortly, just wondered if anyone else is setting off today or waiting until tomorrow?

We are surrounded by areas getting a good laying on from the snow, but we are hardly seeing a flurry. Long may it continue, not this blinkin awful weather I mean

I would certainly be going. As it happens, I'm off to Wales, but would never cancel because of weather.
No point waiing for it to be better, it might get worse.

I wouldnt bother at the moment, Ive just got back from a 2 mile walk to the shop. Roads are bad and its still coming down heavy here in Powys. Its much worse in North Wales. dont become a statistic, stay at home.

Hi Rabbin, I'm not a statistic, but I don't allow weather to alter my plans. For many years, driving coaches and artics, and running my own towing company, I have never had the choice to go or stay at home. The boss says go, you go.
Now that I'm retired that isn't going to change. I have an enormous amount of experience and I have spent an awful lot of money to make sure I get where I need to go.
I have had to go out in these conditions for all these years. Why would things change now?

whilst I agree you probably wouldn't find it difficult to drive in these conditions, due to your experience, in my honest opinion, someone with less experience might find it safer to stay at home. I know I would.

Absolutely agree, while it is important to get outside your comfort zone, you shouldn't do it by much.
If you are not comfortable with your situation, you need to ask some serious questions. For those people, maybe the only answer is to sty t home.
I am not trying to persuade people to travel againt their better judgement. I am only saying what I will do. I know a good many people who are marginlly safe towing a caravan with no snow.

My advice, and this is the first time I have offered it, is this.
If you are not fully confident, stay at home. These are the questions you should answer. Have you towed in high winds? Have you towed in ice and snow? Is there a good margin in your towing ratio? I mean 70% not 85%? Have you skidpan experience?
Also, four wheel drive is a great asset. Further to that, some systems are much more refined than others. Jeep and Land Rover are the most advanced.

If you do decide to go, take it easy. Forget your norml travel times, just concentrate in the moment.

Jim

Why would things change now?...Because I'm retired after 40yrs of driving artics in any weather you care to mention & now I just enjoy watching all that snow on TV. Its just nice not having to drive in snow anymore.

I know what you mean. It wouldn't be hard to come to the same decision.
But it has been a hard year, and we need the break. I have no doubt whatsoever that it will be ok. People on here are talking about death and destruction. It should never come to that. The worst that should happen is that you get stuck or have a very light contact with something..
Otherwise you are going too fast.

Sons just back from Kenmore near Aberfeldy took the scenic route from Callender and said all the roads were clear.

Scotland covers a fair area. No snow where we are and just spent the day in Edinburgh, 2 hours away, travel fine there and back!
