Skoda any day over every mark

Hi, I cannot comment specifically on the 4x4, but I have been towing our Coachman Pastiche 460/2 (1420kg MPTLM) with a Superb Estate SE 170CR for the past 18 months. This has included trips in the UK and to the South of Spain and a long 'Tour de France'. I have found it the best towcar I have ever had - plenty of torque and power from the engine with good gear ratios for towing, and completely stable in all situations, including some pretty severe crosswinds. It has always got me (and the van) out of sticky fields, but I am sure the 4x4 will give even more confidence for this. Towing mpg always depends on wind direction and towing speeds and I tend not to hang around. The towing mpg shown on the trip computer has varied between 26 and 31, and this is about 5% optimistic when checked by brimming. Solo mpg is 42-45 locally and 50+ on long trips. The other great advantage of the Superb for caravanning is the sheer space in the estate. As we are two plus the dog, most of the caravanning clutter fits into plastic boxes placed in the enormous rear seat wells (weight central and low down) leaving the boot for the dog. If you open the ski hatch, you can also keep the occasional eye on the dog through the mirror! Cheers Paul R T
I have only towed once since we got our 170CR 4x4, and it's the best car I ever towed with bar none. And that includes a couple of Discovery Mk1s some years ago.
My previous towcar, a diesel auto, was fine, but if I really gave it juice to pull out smartly, it would just wheelspin, and the Superb just never did this.
Hi Mate, I tow a 24ft 1490kg Elddis with my 170 4x4 and it tows a dream, that little bit of extra power makes pulling away and hills alot easier and to be honest I've never felt the 4x4 at work but then I've had no drama's whilst towing with this car so thats problably due to the system working without me realising! I bought the 4x4 as it was that bit heavier at 1557kg so took me under the 100% with the caravan although the max braked towing weight for this car is 2000kg! I have towed for many years so was quite happy to go close to the 100% as I wanted a car and not a chelsea tractor! The only downside with the 170 4x4 is fuel consumption, i'd say its 5-10 mpg less that a standard 2.0 140 on normal usage but when used for towing sensibly it is more or less the same, I bought a twin door as thats all I could afford and I love it and don't think its nowhere near as bad looking as some on here but if you can afford it i'd go for the combi as its that bit heavier a more versatile when on site ie packing up when wet. Cheers

i like this quote, its 2 days old and was directed at you but hey suprise suprise you never responded
Why a Ford, the skoda superb 1.9 130 will tow your van and give far less problems
Why will a Skoda 1.9 give far less problems than the Mondeo, is this based on actual fact or just your opinion as you sell skodas?, I have had both and the 1.9 Superb was more expensive to service and had more problems in 3 years than the Mondeo.
Have you ever run fords for years,? I have had 4 company ford mondeos and each one did over 100,000 miles without problems, the skoda needed a new drivers seat cover with 6 months, 5 new reverse sensors in 3 years, blown turbo under warranty and problems with the alarm system. I have no problem with an opinion being expressed but bald statements should be based on facts not hearsay/biased opinions
Need i say more
