How would you know which ones are 'type approved' for towing? Why isn't the ST? We are currently looking at Mondeos to, although hubbie is only interested in Nissan Xtrails now! The search continues ....
Perhaps we could have his and her tow cars!

just bought a mondeo zetec nav ,2.0 ltr petrol estate ,due to the death of my beloved picasso ,went for the petrol engine as we only tow our little eldiss 2 berth van ,and don't really need a heavy diesel for the rest of the time .roll on monday pick up time .

How would you know which ones are 'type approved' for towing? Why isn't the ST?

I believe it is something to do with the sports suspension

I thought it was the petrol ST220 that isn't type approved. Tow bar retailers list the 2.2 tdci st but state the st220 petrol isn't approved.

ST220 is petrol and that is the only one that is not type approved.

Seems mad when you think it would probably make a great towcar.

Suspension changes or exhaust changes?   Ive heard both of these affect the type approval.

The search has ended with the purchase of a Mondeo mk4 2.0 tdci Zetec.... I upped the budget to 4 grand which I'm glad I did cuz I ended up with a cracking bargain.... I love it

I have a 2004 MG zt+ it has a 2 Ltr BMW diesel engine, it does 50-55 mpg cruising  30 -35 towing our van a brilliant motor & you can pick them up cheap. I am going to run it as long as possible because I dont know what to replace it with, splash out & get a Jag!
