The Antara has a new engine since 2012, I'm not sure if this is reflected in the ratings. We tow a lunarclubman, 1500kg and it tows like a dream. It has no problems with pulling away or hills and is very stable.
We get 30mpg towing and 40mpg solo. We don't use the Antara for every day use, only decent journeys so I guess solo would be less if you drive around town.
I know we don't have a spare wheel but we were told we could have one, there is space underneath the boot area. We aren't too worried about not having a spare wheel having experience of the repair kit that is supplied. My son did over 100 miles on a motorway once repaired with no problems whatsoever.
