We too are looking at changing our Motability car soon and its a toss up between the Kuga 2.0 TDi Zetec (4WD) and the Tiguan 2.0TD S (4WD) bioth report way higher mpg than the Antara.

Also the What car ratings are poor for the Antara compared to the other two. whereas the down payment is about the same give or take a couple of hundred

After readin this I am looking more and more to the VW

The Antara has a new engine since 2012, I'm not sure if this is reflected in the ratings. We tow a lunarclubman, 1500kg and it tows like a dream. It has no problems with pulling away or hills and is very stable.

We get 30mpg towing and 40mpg solo. We don't use the Antara for every day use, only decent journeys so I guess solo would be less if you drive around town.

I know we don't have a spare wheel but we were told we could have one, there is space underneath the boot area. We aren't too worried about not having a spare wheel having experience of the repair kit that is supplied. My son did over 100 miles on a motorway once repaired with no problems whatsoever.

Correction to previous post after rer reading it. Sorry... The motability report on Antara quotes 46.3 mpg I was comparing the reports of 23mpg coming in in other posts is pretty poor? Our Volvo (2.4l Diesel AWD) averages 30mpg when towing and 35-36 normal driving which is not much less... so when you see headline average rates of 46 and people reporting actual of 23 it makes you wonder...

Also the Antara only gets 1 star What car rating... If you can stretch to a larger deposit I would seriously consider the others. But then again as motability covers all faults and fixes etc... you might not be too bothered about it being in dock regularly.

Just an opinion

My comments of the Tiguan vs Kuga were based on the Titanium and SE versions.

The SE VW stuff we found was better value for kit over the S models at current Motability prices (today!)

But of course being sods law there doesn't seem to be an SE version in 4WD (it might change tomorrow July 1st Q3 prices).

I think the new search engine on the Motability site is the absolute pits! Every time you make an adjustment it takes ages to reload.

Too much traffic on the site and them still fiddling with it is slowing it down - its the same at the start of every quarter.

Hi just looking at some of the quoted figures for Solo and towing with the Antara, could you just re post with figures etc and whether it is a 2 wheel drive version of the 4 wheel drive version.

As we have the new anatara 4x4 version with 7.5 K on the clock now and round town only get about 30 mpg, whilst motorway driving gives us 38 mpg and towing about 26 mpg. Just seems to be drinking more fuel than expected.

cheers Chris. W

We rarely use ours around town, OH works 40 miles away, normal roads, minimum traffic and we get 40 mpg. Towing we get around 30 mpg. Trouble is the diesel particulate filter regenerates every so many miles and the mpg suddenly drops. We drive a 2.2 AWD. Hope that helps.
