We're almost decided on the vw transporter combi, but have a seen a Nissan Pathfinder and have thrown that into the mix just to confuse us a little more.

I'm thinking the running costs are high though fuel, tyres, insurance etc.

Was just wondering others experience.

It's a 2.5 auto.

I would have thought running costs would be similar. Both will barely crack 30mpg.

VW may use a touch less when not towing but will probably use more when towing. Its got less power.

A friend of ours has one of these for towing. Says its not very refined, bit agricultural! Never let him down in 7 years though.

What Nat is actually doing, by posting each on a seperate topic, is making it more useful for anyone in the future looking for the same information.

The search on here works on the Topic Title or the author, so as long as the vehicle is mentioned in the title, the "search" will find it , something that would not happen if it was all in one thread.

What does spoil these threads is being answered by people that have never owned or experienced the vehicle being asked about, people being abusive to others. making a point of "counting" how many questions someone has asked or giving out of date information when regulations have changed, all that does is makes people that are thinking of joining here think again, wondering if they are going to get abused.

......... and the above made sense until someone appears to have deleted and amanded previous posts.

If you go for a Pathfinder consider the cost of replacement clutch every 50000 miles. The Nissan clutches are awful, just ask the thousand of disgruntled Pathfinder and Navara owners who have had problems with theirs. Also Nissan part costs are astromical. I've just traded a Narava and replaced it with a Toyota Hilux

We have a pathfinder, manual so tax is just in so it is not in th £400 bracket but £270 I think. I drive it most and car computer says it is about 35 mpg. Just had a trip towing to Forest of Dean and it went down to 32mpg.

Diesel Hyundai Terrano, pulls like a train.
Fuel consumption goes up when towing, but tow only 5 or 6 times a year so no great hardship
