We where looking out for one last year, but read to many horror stories, so didn't bother with one, ended up with a kia sedona 2.9 auto crdi ls, 25mpg towing I can live with that, but the tax is high at 460 a year!!!, bought it really just for towing and the odd trip, so much room kids don't even fight, trouble is I tend to forget the vans on the back.
Also this months practical caravan has a write up on the espace and it isn't a glowing report.
i had the espace diesel 1.9 i think, it was about 7 years ago, set off towind small caravan, and got about15 miles down the m42, and started to overheat, had to get rac out to pull caravan back home, but it was great on its own
------------- you are only as old as the woman you feel.
I had the 2.0T petrol auto grand espace. Was a great vehicle but a little problematic on the electrics front. Wouldn't have been too bad if my local renault dealer had half a brain but I ended up having to buy the dealer diagnostic kit (clip) myself as they couldn't get to the bottom of the problems (I ended up fixing what they couldn't).
Anyhow it towed my boat weighing 1500KG no problem and also a car transporter with a vw camper on it. Never used it for a caravan but expect it wouldn't have had an issue. Bet the 2.2dci would have been even better.

Any one used one for towing, I have looked at a couple 2.2 turbo diesel's.
Love the lay out of the espace just not sure if it would be a good tower.
hi
had the 2001 dti also lovely lay out and a nice drive but i wouldnt buy another one as the turbo whent bang on it.apparently and you can check renault forums, that this is a common fault on the 1.9 and above. the edi valve coaks up and then blows the turbo later on. i bought a kia desielturbo 2.3 fantastic and for the money well worth it.
