...........I know that the more obvious choice would be the Freelander 2 but I've been looking at the cars available at the moment and it appears that you jump between 1.5 and 2K just to have a freelander 2. I know it's newer but I'm talking about cars that are barely a year apart. I was wondering if all the niggles with the old style Freelander would have been likely to have been ironed out by the time they are 6 or 7 years old? However, saying that, I am looking for a car that has done less miles than my current '57 Mondeo (80K). So if I am looking at a lower mileage car would these problems have had time to occur? My head is hurting with it all. My heart says "go for the Freelander 2" but my head says "try to save some money". Any advice?
If you drive them back to back you will soon see and feel the difference !! Money well spent on a 2 without doubt, its far far ahead of its predecessor.
Freelander 2 without doubt, even if a bit more to purchase you may find over all costs less on the 2, and better residual value. Only go for diesel, and check service history.
Thanks everyone. I think I've decided on the 2 but there's not that many in my price range and most are miles away. I don't want to buy a car from a dealer 100 miles away and then have issues. I suppose I will just have to keep checking the ads and move quickly when I see one closer to home. Thanks again

We just bought a Freelander 2- picking it up Friday and taking the van (which we upgraded last month after 7 years with the old one) away the week after. So excited!!

i had a freelander 1 as a towcar for five years and it would sit at 70 [;)on the motorways home and aboard allday with no proplems mind you silicone hose's and a up grade'd airfilter help'd along with one or other 2 mods .
I have been looking around at what vehicle to replace my MGzt+, its a pity they went bust as its a lovely car.It pulls our van with ease returning 30+mpg around 40 without, its a bit wider than the Mondeo which I think gives it more stablity. My friend has a Jag xf which he uses to pull his van so hope to get a feed back from him, I dont really want to go the 4x4 route, see what turns up?
I have a 3lt jaguar xf that I tow with and I can recommend it the only proplem is that its so easy to forget you have the caravan on the back which I have done ,the jag will happfully tow your caravan above 60. the c/control makes life easy on the motorways just watch out for it increseing the revs on any inclines it do's this to keep to the set speed by it self I did wonder what was going the 1st it done as I shot by the b/in law who doing a steady 55 uphill .
