I have a baily olympus with the atc control system fitted. I would guess most modern caravans now have this system.

The hand book with the van says that upon electrical connection I can expect the LED light to be either red, green or flashing green. if the light does not turn to green then the ATC is not working correctly.

Thats it no further information

My dealer said do not tow with red light showing as this will burn breaks out (seems sensible). If I get flashing green I shoul shake the van with the tow car and It will turn to green. I asked what to do if it goes wrong and will change to green I was told that they dont go wrong

Being the worrier that i am looked up The ATC on the web and found from the alco site that ther wer four possibilities

Green all ok

Green flashing move the van to change to green

Red ATC inactive ok to drive

Flashing red DO NOT DRIVE

If redlights are flashing remove the push rod which requires two 17 mm spanners.

As you can see the dealer was wrong and the bailey info was useless.

Anyone out there had trouble with the ATC?

PS when i conecct to car the green light always flashen until I shake the van.

When connecting up the ALKO system on our van, the green light also flashes but then turns solid and it's good to go.
The only time we have had a red light is after the van was serviced and the system needed resetting.
Don't think you would burn the brake's out if towed.

It's flashing red that indicates breaks are engaged so you cannot tow. Dealer should have told you that and given you the ATC written documentation on hand-over.

Now on my third ATC equipped van with many trips under their respective belts .... to allay your fears I've never had any issues with ATC.

When I picked up our new van with ATC a couple of years ago I had 12 N&S on the car and 13 pin on the new van so I'd bought the adapter to connect the two plugs. To cut a long story short something wasn't right because as I moved off the car felt very sluggish and I could hear the van brakes squeaking. After driving a couple of hundred yards I stopped and the van brakes were red hot and virtually jammed on. The guy from the workshop came out with his little tractor(still on private land) and the only way back to the workshop was to push the van backwards. The ATC was checked and reset. The only way the ATC would work was to unplug the grey 7 pin plug. I seem to remember him saying thats where the ATC gets its power from. I had the car converted to 13 pin and all is fine now. So ATC can jam on. Ive changed the car since and still no problems with the ATC.
