We are thinking of changing our car - any opinions???? - we like the look of the Skoda Octavia estate - good reviews.  Mondeos also seem good "doers"!!. We are downsizing our caravan too  for a 2 berth. We want to say bye bye to our 4X4- costing too much to run!!

It all depends on your budget, if going new or nearly new, go for the 2ltr 140 CR Skoda, all the power and economy you would ever need.

Avoid the early 2ltr 140 TDI due to possible turbo problems, this was rectified when the CR was introduced

if going second hand the 1.9 tdi is the one with the bullet proof engine, thats if you can find a low mileage  one, as they are now scarcer than hens teeth, but they are out there, I got £2,000 for mine 2 months ago as a trade in ,with 237,000 miles on it, it was sold an hour later

Just remember to change the oil every 10,000 miles not as skoda says 18,000 an old showman told me this that if you want a diesel to run for ever just change the oil sooner rather than later

There is also the new superb to consider the 140 CR is the bees knees and a massive boot hatch, with more rear leg room than a merc S class

If you can find one, Skoda Octavia Estate 2.0TDi 4x4 or even the Scout. Plenty of space in the back for a load and extra traction when on muddy fields. The 140(138bhp) engines are very good, good torque, plenty of pulling power, 33-35mpg towing.

Dave coaches - we had to have a new clutch in our 56 plate X trail also DMF and wouldn't want to repeat that!! We would be looking at 2 to 3 year old car and one that was economical to run when we are not towing.  The Skoda is getting a thumbs up from you who have them - your persuading us I think!!!

Quite true, just as likely to have a Skoda DMF go as a Ford. My guess is the Ford would be cheaper too.
