Hi. I'm looking at getting a sorento. It comes with a tow bar (saves me about £500 according to kia garage price) but I'm not sure it's the right tow ball for our Alko hitch. It's a silver one with what looks like a neck.
I will try to work out how to post the photo I've taken. It appears to be quite short in height too which makes me wonder if we have an extended tow ball on the Mondeo. Any advice would be appreciated
Thanks
Alison
When you put an Alko extended towball next to a standard one there is actually very little noticeable difference.

I've decided that it is a standard tow ball in the Kia and we must have the extended towball on our Mondeo. So should I get it changed? The tow balls appear to be fairly cheap in comparison to the tow bar cost. Our's isn't an AKS ALKO just a standard ALKO hitch.

If you don't have any of these, then a standard towball will do.

That's the AKS 3004 and extended towball required. Can't you just take the one off the Mondeo and swap over with the Sorento, I know this is not a huge saving.

This is the Towsure version, the real thing is nearly £30 but it does come with new bolts. Any local towbar fitter should be able to supply an extended neck towball, or come to that your local caravan accesory shop.

Thanks, that looks like our current one (without the black paint of course). I shall look around locally to source a new one. Thanks for all your help.

If it is a standard Kia fitted ball it is likely to be a swan neck which will be fine.

For a licence dated 1997 or later you must add together the plated max weight of the caravan and trailer, if the total is 3500 or less you can tow it. You may even tow a caravan with a MAM greater than the cars unladen mass the restriction was removed in 2013
