I have an '09 Santa Fe (our only car) which is a great car but it's very uneconomical on the short school runs my wife does. She also has never liked driving such a large car, parking is sometimes awkward etc.
I've been thinking of selling it and buying a small Fiesta-type car for her and then buying something 'stupid' for the occasional towing.
(By 'stupid', I was thinking of the 5-litre V10 VW Touraeg - a work colleague has one for towing and loves it. Economy is horrendous (lucky to hit 20mpg solo) but I only tow 1500 miles a year and I'd love to have something with that much oomph. In reality, I'll wimp out and get an old Kia Sorento but I can dream ).
Anyway, anyone done something similar and can recommend it or regret it?

You know, that 'aint a bad idea! Some great examples for sale and I could even be vaguely sensible and get the 3 litre diesel. Bit wimpy but looks great...
Bit worried about entering the Dark World of LR ownership but who knows...
Thanks for the idea

A quick shufty on a LR owners forum and, like Dragons Den, I'm out. Even the owners admit the diesel is horribly under-powered (but at least reliable) while the 4.6 V8 petrol WILL break down, it's just a matter of how often and how much it will cost
The search goes on...
