hi im new to this forum so be gentle lol. Ive just bought a sprite musketeer 4 berth 1981 i think , just had it on weigh bridge and it weighs 820kg, thats with everything in apart from gas bottle, would a ford focus 1.8tdci 2002 hatch be ok to pull this thanks in advance bryan
thanks for that tentz. thought i would have been ok but wanted to check with people in the know. Ive been using my shogun for its first couple of outing but focus will be cheaper to run
colly27 - we had an older Musketeer years ago, late '70s model I think. We used to tow it with a Renault 20TS, and it was a very light caravan to tow. Behind the Renault it was very stable and good mpg despite being petrol. With the torque available from the Focus, I would echo Tentz's comments and say it would be fine.
Enjoy!
Pete
thank for reply petemate, the reason i asked was the focus has not got a tow bar on at min and didnt want to waste money putting it on if it wasnt going to tow it but think it will be getting ordered first thing in morning now
the only thing on plate is 960kg but thats been stamped into plate and old number centre popped out.Spoke to local caravan repairers about it and it may have been done by factory years ago so not sure to be honest as cant really see plate well due to years of paint on it and cant find anything on internet about tham and when i think about it, it could be 5 berth not 4 if that makes any difference
That could well be right as the Musketeers are very light. Our Coronette (which is now at the dealer traded in, waiting for the PDI etc on our forthcoming Sterling Topaz) is - sort of - loosely based on the Challenger, which comes out at a lot more, is only 1100 MTPLM, yet to look at it one would think it would be a lot heavier.
HTH
to be honest only gas bottle to go in so if need be i will take awning out and put it in car as theres only 2adults and my 5 year old going away at any time so hopefully it will be ok
