Hi I'm new on here my wife and i are looking to buy a 4 berth caravan with an end bathroom with separate shower. What I was wondering are the showers any good or is this a waste of space. Any advice would be grateful thanks

If you are looking for a power shower experience, you're not likely to find one - but that's actually a good thing as an aqua roll only holds so much water :-) However, we can get a good hot shower in ours, plenty long enough to wash and condition my hair and not feel the need to race through. I generally put the water heater on to both gas and electric to make sure there's plenty of hot water available. We've used our shower quite a lot and find it invaluable with two small children - a big shower is one of the main things I want to find in our next van.

The main problem with a shower in a caravan is having to turn the hot and cold water taps on and off again because your water barrel can easily run out of water if you don't. The time wasted trying to get the temperature right each time can be somewhat frustrating so the simple idea would be to keep the water at the same temperature if possible so it allows more time in the shower thus using less water. We have the end washroom too but I have replaced the existing shower head with a Reich Charisma shower head which allows you to do exactly that by the using the lever on top of the shower head so the hot and cold water supply remain at constant temperature whilst you turn the water on and off as required. I find it an excellent choice and wouldn't swap back to a basic shower head again and if you change your caravan you can always interchange the shower heads back and transfer it to your new caravan.

I like the sound of that shower head - though actually we just leave ours running! I can easily shower myself and my daughter on a barrel, my husband likes site facilities best and the wee man sits in a big pink tub inside the shower for his bath :-) Which again is something I'll miss when our caravan sells if we can't replicate it - with a big end bathroom we can kneel outside the shower to wash him in his tub without getting in the way of the main aisle if the caravan.

We have no problems setting temperatures, we have a Carver Cascade 2GE water heater and Aquarolls (3) giving two showers or so from each 40 litre roll.

If we leave the Carver running it extends the time you have to shower, but rarely do we run out of hot water.

The water pump is a submersible external type.

Taps and shower head are Whale.

Heater takes about 20 mins to heat up again, less if we have the electric element on at the same time.

I have a centre shower. I always use caravan shower. I just check aqua roll is full before I start. Essential for us.

I would love a rear shower but prefer kids to have there seperate area instead up the front with us. Means I can carry on watching TV and things while the kids are in bed.

We bought a van on a whim and had no thoughts of using the shower. But we thought we'd better try it out in case anything needed fixing. Well, we are hooked!!!! We have a Lunar Clubman with end bathroom, the shower has an energy saving Eco Camel shower head (haven't a clue what it means but it's brilliant). One barrel does two quick showers, and the shower head is so good that you can get wet, washed and rinsed really quickly. I have showered and washed my long hair and not run out of water. If we need to refill the barrel between showers we do boost with gas.

Go back to 20 seconds of push button showers in cold, unheated ablutions where other people are using the toilets? I don't think so!

The shower in our ranger is excellent we use it all the time in preference to site showers can't say that we have had any problems regarding temp/ water usage the shower cubicle is large the only snag was a small amount of water splashed out under the door easily fixed by undoing the hinge an dropping the door 1/2 an inch

We used the van shower for years. The new van was best because it had a shower mixer tap so was easy to turn on and off.

We always switch water on to get wet then switch off to soap up etc. Then switch water back on to rinse. It saves a lot of water and that is less to carry both ways.

We also showered on alternate days so only one person a day.

We moved house to a cottage with limited off road parking, so a small caravan or camper van is all we can have without paying storage. We use the caravan frequently so storing elsewhere can be a pain. We stay at sites with no facilities at times. Our Ring camping shower works a treat. It is powered from the leisure battery but works well on torch batteries as an alternative. The battery/switch pack clips to a purpose made fixing in our small "wetroom" and the shower head doubles up as a faucet for the washbasin. I fitted a shower tray in the floor and used uPvc panels to water proof the whole toilet compartment. (Fibreglass caravan by the way) A shower takes 2 to 4 litres of hot water from the kettle(s) to make up the 10 litre feed bottle. The pump drops into the bottle and bingo you have a quick shower anywhere. It sounds a bit primitive but it genuinely is OK and we shower each day at sites such as St Agnes Beacon and CL's, especially on wet and windy days out of season. Yes we can shower properly on 10 litres of water. Neither of us is bald although my wife will sometimes wash her hair with a top up to rinse !

The Carver Cascade 2GE holds 9 litres, and with cold water added I can get a very good shower without running out of hot water, hair and beard washed as well :)

Just make sure you keep your washroom ventilated to let the steam out. I've not used a site shower for over 4 years now.
