we just purchased a new car and have just noticed the electrics on the tow bar are different to our van .the van has 2 leads a black and a grey look to have 8 pins the car looks to have 16 now im guessing i need to change one or the other but which one car or van? secondly is it a big job and expensive or a simple fix help please i need to have it sorted next weekend or we lose this months trip too lost last one due to old car dying
Just go to a caravan outlet they will have an adapter, my car had black & grey sockets, the new van is a 13 pin socket, so changed the car sockets to the 13 pin.I wished now that I had stuck with black & grey and bought a adapter to fit the van for I have a friend who has a low loader car trailer, which I cannot use because of the plug arrangement.

You can buy a single 13pin socket to 7pin plug adaptor from Halfords if thats what you mean.
I am Changing my caravan This weekend, the new van is 13 pin and the old one was 2 x 7 pin.
I did not want to use adapter as I would rather wire it properly. I went back to the dealer that fitted towbar adapter would cost £28.00 but fitting 13 pin is £40.00 including bits so I opted for that.

thanks think i will order the adapter lead
now you made me realize my trailer wont fit either lol
thaks for the help folks
You will find the adaptor caravan twin plug to car single socket quite cumbersome & you will probably need a piece of cord looped around to hang on hitch or risk dragging on ground. However for your trailer 7pin plug you can buy a small single 7pin to 13pin which is much neater & easier to use.
