The Almera Tino has a 1250kg max tow limit. So not suitable at all for your van which i think is over that.
You need to be careful on the Renault tow limits also.
They can only tow that amount with an empty car. So the 1300kg limit may no be enough for you also.
Add a few passengers and luggage and the Renault figure could be a lot less.
I think you need to look at something else.

But if our laden weight was only the max 1250kg and we didnt take too much surely that would be ok?

Some say yes but personally i think no.
The gross weight is what counts.
Your licence and money your risk.

I agree. You need something quite a bit heavier. Don't even think about this.

A Primera if you like Nissans? Bought my X Trail for £2800 this time last year 58,000 on the clock.
Qashqai, Mondeo, Passat?

Mondeo = dirt cheap.
I bought a 2004 diesel estate in 2009 for just over £2000.
Its now got 160,000 miles on the clock and passed the MOT requiring a clip on the driveshaft gaitor.
