Hi,I tow a Freedom Sunseeker with a Peugeot 308(automatic)and would like to upgrade to a lovely Lunar Astara 525 that I have found today. The van weighs 1042kg with a max of 1294kg and my car's towing limit is 1500kg.A quick search puts that at a 86% match. What do other members think of that? There will only be the 2 of us and the dogs so it won't be packed to the gills but having towed the Freedom ( which you don't know is there!)I'm just worried it may be too much for the car. Thanks

Are you sure the 1500 kg you are stating is the kerb weight of your car or is it the max permissible towing weight.two very different weights only go with the kerb weight as long as 85-95% of that weight is lower than the permissible weight you will be fine

Kerbweight of 1395kg and a caravan weighing 1294kg

= 93%   not 86%

If your happy with that then carry on.

Watch the noseweight though. Some peugeot's have a low noseweight.

Thanks Grampian not feeling so safe about it now. The noseweight is 60 which does nt seem much for size of van. Might have to re think. Pity its a lovely van. Thanks

Hi we had a 1.6 Auto 307 estate when we first started looking at caravans and were advised not to bother with this car / engine configuration as we were told, by a reputable caravan dealer "IT WOULD NOT PULL THE SKIN OF RICE PUDDING, TOTALLY CRAP FOR TOWING", and he would not even consider selling us something that might just be able to be pulled.

We had to wait a further two yrs before we changed the car to something more man enough 2.0 ltr Focus II estate diesel.

Sorry i could not offer anything better, it was the worst car we ever had, and will never go near Peugeot again, sorry.

Hope this helps

Of dear - well, at least you have received frank opinions from more than one direction. If you have actually gone ahead with the Lunar, then it may be the time to bite the bullet and trade the Pug in for something a bit bigger. Given that the Lunar will be a nice quality caravan, I would (if affordable) go for a new (to you) car.

Thanks everyone. Reluctantly decided against the Lunar. Lovely though it was I knew I wouldn't feel safe towing a van that heavy and would find it hard to get close to the cars noseweight limit. Holidays should be relaxing not a stress fest. On the plus side have bought a wonderful inflatable awning that I can put up myself and gives me and the dog all the room we need. Just need the weather to last now.

We've got the 308 1.6 diesel & have just bought a sprite major 5 at MIRO 1101 & MTPLM of 1335. This puts us at the very limit of our towing capacity. We've said we'll see how we go but maybe have to switch cars next year.
