Hi all......i am looking to change my car to my first diesel.I like the look of the picassos as they are resonably priced an plenty around. It would be the 2.0 litre diesel version. What worrys me is that they seem to only have 90bhp and am concerned would it be enough to pull my swift classic baronet which says it weight in the book is "maximum authourised weight" 1200kg.The ex works weight is 970kg.Would be grateful on any thoughts of people who have a picasso an pulling same sort of weights.....i know there is that whattowcar thing but i think peoples experience is more useful.....please come forward with any suggestions ...thanx
We had a 2.0hdi Xsara Picasso and towed around 1000kg. I had to use the gear box a lot on the hills and always thought it needed more power. I think the max towing weight is 1300kg but 1000kg was plenty for it to cope with. The later 1.6hdi is 110bhp which may be a better option for you.
My sister was looking for a galaxy or one of its twins.
But she was rather surprised to find a car costing so much treated so badly.
There will always be neglected cars but they seemed to be in the majority with these.
Maybe they just threw the food on the floor and let the kids eat off that rather than waste money on paper plates or buying napkins?
Any left overs soon gets trampled into the carpet, Please wipe your feet when getting OUT.
We have the same combination and haven't had any problems, towed from Southampton to Devon quite easily. My husband often says he would like more bhp but has been pleased on occasions, for example - he was in the wrong lane at traffic lights and needed to switch quickly and the car managed very well. He does avoid steep hills though.
We have a 140bhp Galaxy at the moment, it is a pleasure to drive with or without the caravan and it has been boringly reliable and rattle free, unlike the majority of Citroens we've had for the past 15 years or so.
We wipe our feet before we get in unlike the cars that Grampian described.
I just cant fathom why anyone would want a Citreon 'blob'.
Its one of the most ugly fricken things ive ever seen in my life! Its a blob with a wheel at each corner!
Sorry, each to their own I guess but boy did that one fall from the ugly tree!
If you have any substantial caravan and I say 'substantial', the Citreon 'blob' is a very poor tow car. Low nose weight tolerance being one such gripe let alone the woes of poor build quality and reliability that I constantly hear about from mates in the trade.
Galaxy is a far better bet with the excellent 1.9 VW PD engine as long as it has a full service history. The VW Sharan is the bascily the same car but with a VW badge on the front.
I saw a beaten to death Galaxy example at my local MOT station the other week, it was dog rough and used as a taxi (for good reason) but had covered 270'000 miles!
You'd be sweeping up anything French with a dust pan and brush in the road long before that kind of hard use and mileage!
Thanx everyone.....mixed reviews.....difficult one...drifted off the point a bit wiv the galaxy lol.....thanx vonnie u may just ave swung it...please keep em cuming wiv anyone who pulls wiv a picasso
we had the old shape 2.0HDI Picasso and it towed our Bailey Ranger 510/4 superbly, we now have the C4 Grand Picasso 2.0HDI and all I can say is we have never had any problems at all.
A bit low on power by modern standard will pull your van but be prepared to change gear a lot .
HDI models have clutch problems.
electric problems look out for dashboard warning lights
driving lights switching themselves on??
and general electrical problems
sunroof leaks.
The most warranty claims are for suspension problems
The above are facts and not personal preference, there is lots about so take your time and choose a good one and you should be ok
We have a pic 2.0HDI. Towed our van with at weight of 1205kg (weighed it ) Towed well on motorway and was fine with hills, only dropping to 3rd on most hills. Some of the steepest hills, felt would like a bit of extra power, but still managed a decent 40-45 up them. The were in west/mid wales, so normal single A roads.
Only have had 1 big prob with ours. Turned out to be a £30 part, but in diagnosing it spend £1000 on a new turbo . Anyway tows well, good mpg (56-58mpg) and 40-42mpg towing. May think of engine re-map to add some extra bhp. Gives an extra 25% bhp and torque.
