The reason there cheap is there not very well built! Typical French build quality, carp! They are obsessed with getting high mpg and low purchase price. Sorry to be negative but I have worked on the things.
had a lovely powerfull 1.6 110 bhp picasso ,till the gearbox went at easter .the cost of a new gearbox and advised clutch (dual mass) repair exceeded the value of the car .its a no brainer .
we are on our 4th Picasso- 2 of the old bubble shape and 2 of the C4 Grand--never had---clutch probs, elec dash board probs, nothing. Had a semi-auto box too, that was brilliant to tow with. Back to a manual now and stillno probs, as for build quality, well where we live we now have converted 6 people over to a Grand C4 from Renault Scenics, Galaxys, Quashqui(sorry about the spelling) and they are all chuffed to mintballs with there cars. Horses for courses I say. Oh and by the way-the car choice is up to my wife as she is the driver and lady tower--I just have to wash the humungus thing when it is dirty.
We have a 2005 2.0 HDI picasso and love it,we only tow a 850kg pennine sterling though, yes it could do with a bit more power up hills but for the number of times we tow a year it is ok, the best thing about the 2 ltr is no Dreaded DMF flywheel or DPF filter to worry about.
------------- Exercise every day and Die Healthy....
Hi from a newbie to the site.
We have just bought a 2004 2L Xsara picasso executive on Friday and I'm looking for somewhere local to me in Romford Essex to supply and fit a two-bar at the keenest price so that I can go and pick my caravan up from Eastleigh/Southampton and bring it back up here.
I won't be using the caravan much if at all for towing but its interesting to know that there are many views on what the picasso is like for towing.
I'll be using the M3 and M25 to bring it back up here, so I suppose its 6 of one and half a dozen of the other whether I go clockwise or anticlockwise coming back, re the miles of roadworks clockwise V the hills and roadworks anticlockwise using the picasso, (before I had a 2 Ltr turbo transit van and never encountered a problem).
So,, any suggestions on what to watch out for towing my van with the picasso halfway round the M25 ?
