Our 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee 3.0 CRD Overland was damaged while parked 2 days before we went to France a month ago a good friend lent us his 2008 Santa Fe we did 1400 miles towing with it.
liked it so much that we traded the Jeep in for a 2010 model.

towed a twin axle van to Cornwall twice a year, app 2000 miles towing per year, all it needed was regular servicing.
Santa fe made by the same group.

Correct, we purchased a 2012 Sorento in Dec 12 it was 3 months old and has 7 year warranty.

It has 2.2 194bhp engine and tows very well. It pulls happily in 6th gear on motorways at 60mph. Solo it has more than enough grunt! ( So my wife says!)

Economy not bad, 38 ish solo, 26-28 towing.

Crikey, that is a VERY good friend! I wouldn't let my brother drive my car to the local shops recently

We had a 2009 SF and it was a very good towcar - decent power and the self-levelling suspension kept the car nice and stable.

I've towed with a 2004 Santa Fe, and 2006 Seddona, and I have to say I did not noticed in either of them, that I had a large van on the back, as far as the engine was concerned. And that includes up Rhuallt Hill on the A55, which anyone who has travelled up it will tell you is a steep slope.

The Santa Fe had a 2.2 diesel, and the Seddona a 2.9.

Comparing the 2 even though Hyundai owns Kia, the instruments feel more plastic in the Seddona.

Apart from a 2 part fly wheel on the Santa Fe, which was replaced under warranty, despite the Dealer stating the car had the One piece fly wheel. As the factory had changed the month before mine was built [the Service Manager came out on collection, to apologise, and said it looked like someone had squashed a cake, and all the filling was oozing out. And it was the worst one he had even seen] I had no other major issues with the Santa Fe.

And only changed to the Seddona, for the extra space to get my spouses mobility scooter in, without taking it apart [50/50 split rear, remove one side. A piece of carpet on the bumper, and lift the front into the car, and just lift and push the rear in.] and still have a 5 seat car.

I've put in over 1,000 hours sat in the Seddona, over a number of years. Supporting my 2 Disabled children go to collage. I used it as a mobile office, to review geocaches, sat outside McDonalds using their wifi. I was a "known" customer because on arrival it was a Latte and a Belgium fudge brownie. Lunch was 2 meals and lattes, and a Chicken nugget happy meal for the dogs, and usually a latte in the afternoon

I've been extremely happy with both, and will only downsize in the future. Due to not needing such a large car, as my wife is no longer able to safely use a mobility scooter, and instead has to use a wheel chair.

One piece of advice for the Seddona, the rear heater is supplied by metal pipes, these corrode, and can drain they system coolant out, resulting in a sized engine. The solution which takes a hour or so, is to replace both runs, with rubber hoses. Mine cost £30 for the hose [10m bought off ebay] and labour. Both runs, were showing signs of corrosion.

Hi,
Just back from a trip to Holland towing with our Santa Fe 2.7 petrol, not a wobble all 900 miles. Ours has a LPG system fitted and we averaged 19.5mpg. Only problem with the Santa Fe is the rear spring are a bit soft, I have just ordered some spring assisters and will post when they are fitted.

I had been considering going back to a Sorento (previously had a 05 plated 2.5 one)  when I met a chap on a site who was towing with one and we got chatting. I asked why he had chosen that one and he stated that the newer 2.2 models were not up to the job of towing his Bailey Pageant. I was a bit surprised at this to be honest but thought I would ask the question on here and get the opinion of people who actually own one, either a Santa Fe or Sorento.

I think the later 2.2 Sorento is lighter and the tow ball kg is lower (112kg on the older 2.5.  now the 2.2 is 80kg.

Andy.

2 types of 2.2 sorento. Also, I have owned a 2.5 sorento for 5 years so I can happily compare the two models. The older 2.5 drives like a van/pick up. Not too sophisticated but excellent for towing. Bumpy compared to a normal car but very good at towing. My manual gearbox model had plenty of power but was not refined by modern standards. Not to say it was bad..... I now drive the new sorento 2.2 auto satnav. Much more car-like solo but feels a bit less 'manly' especially towing. However, far more power and comfort than older model, and it has self levelling suspension, stability control and is supposed to be safer in a crash. It also uses no more or a bit less fuel consumption(new one is an auto so thats an amazing fact), and looks loads more modern inside and out. It tows my Bailey Orion 460-5 with ease (max weight 1345kg from memory). So Sorento 2007 is a good towcar (mine was 2009 168bhp model) but the new 2013 model is even nicer! However, the first new sorento (pre 2013 but the first fwd models) are supposed to be less than perfect when towing, but they are quite cheap (relative to new ones). For a towcar I think I would suggest an 'old skool' sorento as new as you can afford with a manual gearbox for cheap running costs, or an 'all new' 2013 model car in auto for luxury. But whatever you choose, they are great towcars hehehe.

Now experience of the Sorento but tow with a 2010 Santa Fe and love it. Stable and powerful tow car with self levelling suspension. Have covered a faultless 40K miles. Interior plastics could be a little better can't think of anything else to fault.
