They were produced in Southhampton for 40 years.

They have closed their doors - in future they will be produced in Turkey.

I don't think builders will be gobbling them up so fast in future...   17

the rest of europe and africa as been getting them from turkey for years . its not a new plant , far better quality than the british vehicles .

Totally agree with that statement, when the mini first came out it was £485 OTR new

how much does one cost today, thats 80% built by robots.

Its not a mini in my eyes, and never will be, you could get 3 on the back seat but you can only get 2 now.

I just wish someone would bring back the original with a few modern touches, the machinery is still mothballed lying in some warehouse in the UK somewhere

The original Mini could easily be put back into production with quite minor modifications to lighten the subframes and include airbags etc
With a modern high pressure fuel injected engine in petrol or diesel , perhaps 3 cyl turbo like the new Ford engine. You would get fantastic economy in a fun package.Cars generally are getting way too complex and expensive. I am with Skoda Bob on this one !
