Hi just wanting to no what people think should a stabiliser be used or not?
We off on our first major trip I've taken caravan out a couple of times without one
Cheers
Ian
You'll get some say yes some say no, I've always had vans without one and towed happily, our last two vans have alko so we use them. No stabiliser can stop a bad match or badly loaded van from snaking, it can dampen some of the pushes you get from lorries etc. if you load the van correctly and your van is a good match to your car, then adding a stabiliser will make a nice steady outfit just a bit more comfortable. But you don't need one :)

The road can be tough and rough, but what you put in you get back 10 x more.
Totally agree with Octavia. Very well said. A well set up stabiliser adds a safety factor in case of emergency braking or an "out of line moment". Ours also definitely massively reduces sway induced by fast, heavy, overtaking vehicles on the motorway too. In fact we have to have a very quickly moving overtaker to cause any sway whatsoever.(We had one tiny, single "wag" in France in 1,800 miles of mainly autoroute)
I prefer the older type blade types with adjustment to give correct level of damping.
There are some spurious, supposedly academic research reports which say they do not work. I suspect poor research control and badly chosen procedures. The results fly in the face of physics and long established and proven engineering principles.

If you go to www.whattowcar.com you can put in the details of your outfit and it will tell you how good a match it is. Site is down at the moment but worth checking out. Avondale Perle is not listed so you will need the weight of your caravan to put in.
