I am looking to buy a used car, the one i have my eye on is a 2002 peugeot hdi 406, but it is the 90 bhp model, not the 110 bhp, How important is the extra 20 bhp, clearly the more power the better, but is the 90 bhp version so inferior?
Hi Jagman, As it happends we tow our Mendip magnum 524 which has a MTPLM of 1325kg's with a Peugeot 406 hdi 90 bhp and we find it tows great, theres loads of low down torque and towing we get around 30mpg and solo around 47-50mpg. As your vans a bit lighter than ours you will have no problem at all with the 90 version
There is no competition as far as I'm concerned. A mark3 Mondeo every time. I tow with the earlier TDDi and it's simply brilliant and they say the TDCi is even better. All the ingredients are there for a great tow car; bhp = 115bhp@1900rpm, torque = 200hp+, good kerbweight = 1495kg, high max tow weight 1800kg and a decent nose weight 75kg.
The Octavia is a decent enough car although its nose weight is a little "wimpy" at, if I remember correctly, 65kg.
The Zafira is also a decent enough car, but i think it has a low max tow weight of something like 1250-1300kg.
AS you've probably guessed I've considered all 3 vehicles myself and I don't regret buying the Mondeo one bit.
