You need to make sure that there is sufficient clearance both vertically and laterally so that the front of the hitch does not foul the tow-bar bracket and that the hitch drops completely onto the ball. (Al-Ko balls project further back away from the vehicle and have more clearance below the ball.)
If you use a normal ball you risk becoming unhitched.
An Al-Ko ball will be readily available from most caravan dealers.
In any event you do need to make sure that all the paint is removed with a fine emery cloth before hitching up.
