I know a Honda rep - he said - "Honda don't do towing vehicles"  He said - there are lots of other vehicles that are far better.

However - I imagine it depends on what you are towing - if it's a caravan with any weight - I would look elsewhere - but if your van is only light - just fit snow and ice tyres.

The auto has a towing limit of 1500kgs, ( tends to hunt between 4th and 5th when towing) manual 2000kgs, performane in snow depends on the tyres fitted (Dunlop ST30 M+S as standard). Not a true 4x4 but detects wheel slippage and goes into 4 wheel drive automatically. I tow an Amara 520/4 with a2010 iDtec auto , no problems, mpg 22-26 mpg depending on journey /type of road/traffic etc. Mpg solo averages 35, have managed 49mpg solo on a 70 mile run to Lincolnshire but used a VERY light right foot.

Honda towbar from main dealer £735,with twin electrics, ask for a towing kit (same thing but this is specified if ordered from the factory) and it is  £685. Prices correct August 2012. This is my second CRV and never had a problem.It will be much better in snow than the Mazda 6 due to availability of 4 wheel drive.

Like Robbie I changed from an Accord Tourer to the CR-V and it tows my Burgundy like a dream.

As for 4x4 capabilities, well, it's a soft-roader rather than a true off-roader and it's difficult to tell as on mine it selects itself automatically should the front wheels slip. In the latest version 4 wheel drive is selectable manually.

Oops, my mistake, I misread it, it's now electronically selected instead of the slower mechanical version.
