Ok, I'll start by saying that this post is A BIT OF FUN! It's not intended to start a whole debate between sexes. It was just a comment from another thread that made me chuckle "it's not a men's only club you know " it made me wonder how many women tow as I'm one of them. I came from a family where my dad drove everywhere. Mum can drive but it was always considered a "man thing"

I always tow our van, only passed my trailer test beginning of May, been out on the 'van loads and OH has not towed once. I actually enjoy it! Must admit though, one if the things I enjoy is when we pull on to a site, me driving and some of the already there campers puff out their feathers, grin with a "knowing look" waiting for the entertainment to start. Unfortunately for them, what usually happens is that I manoeuvre my 24ft van first time in to our pitch, nice and straight too haha. I've even had a couple of the men from sites come over and apologise for watching so intently as they didn't "expect that from a woman" :-O why not???? Haha!! OH thinks it's sooo funny, I'm sure that's one of the reasons he likes me towing. Other than that he towed for years and now enjoys being able to enjoy the scenery :0)

Like I said, just a bit of fun. Not starting a "who's the better" debate.

I hate towing our van. but the wife refuses to tow so its down to me. don't realy care if it takes me lots of shunts to park it on the pitch. or if i do it in one go. i just does'nt matter.
gold stars for all driver who do it in one go. and hang your head in shame if you need multiple shunts. in fact pack up go home and sell you van.you bad people.

Using large sites like Haven etc. i would have said 99.9999% are men.

When a woman pulls in its get the chairs and a case of beer and plenty of nibbles to watch.

But recently i used a CCC site and there were a fair few women towing caravans and trailer tents etc.

Of course being women they wont be able to reverse as well as me

Cheating eh.. No using motor movers is not cheating

Its most unfair to say most women are not very good at reversing a car/caravan combination

My lady doesn't tow, but could do at a pinch as she has licence etc.

I've seen plenty of men screw up when reversing, we had a right show put on last year at one of our regular events, a woman was directing her hubby driving the motorhome, he was trying to back onto their trailer, after 6 attempts the air was blue!

Women seem to have a lack of spatial awareness that makes it difficult for them to reverse, but those that do have it are fine and equal to the men in all respects.

One of the guys across the road always comes out when I reverse up to the big trailer and get within a Gnat's whatsit first time, he just can't understand how it is done. I just look at the front of the trailer in the mirrow and when the two side uprights are in a certain position, that's it. Simples.

I do pretty much all the driving and I have towed before. OH would never tow, he doesn't really like driving full stop.

I can reverse anything anywhere, doesn't worry me, I never drive into a parking space.

My wife doesn't tow, she won't even drive at all now.
She had 3 Ford Ka's over the years and covered under 1,000 mls per year (YEP ONE THOUSAND MLS)with each.
Says she just hates driving and no amount of cajoling can get her to drive so we sold her last Ka .

I have no choice but to tow as I go away in my little van on my own.
I am perfectly capable of towing, hitching, unhitching, setting up, packing away and reversing without any help at all.
I love the freedom my caravan gives me!

Ooer. That was me.

I've always believed firmly that I can do what the blokes do, and I've never found yet that I can't. (But I've never been down a pit or anything like that, before anyone says anything). I get really annoyed with ladies who, when discussing towing, go all simpery and say "Oo, I couldn't POSSIBLY do that !"

Yes, you could. Lots of us do.

As others have said - we share. I feel for all the poor blokes who drive for miles and miles, probably tired, because their other halves "couldn't possibly". Oh, for heaven's sake.

I will admit to my reversing being a bit C- see me after class tho. I force myself into it. I'm learning fast!! At least I give the watchers a bit of entertainment.

We share the towing. Always have. If I had to do all the driving I would get pretty peed off at having a permanent passenger.

My husband doesn't drive so I do the towing. t took 2 years to pluck up the courage to get a caravan (we had TT in the past - lighter to tow). Most of the time it's fine being the only one that drives but sometimes I get a bit fed up. Especially when he's dozing in the car next to me during a really long tow :-(

I do all the towing but every time we use the caravan she says to me that she wants to learn how to tow the caravan but the only problem apart from being nervous of getting onto motorways is she cant reach the pedals in my car shes 5foot and im 5ft7" and the seat is all the way forward so she has no chance in this car.

Nice to hear a few ladies are sharing the burden We are off to chatsworth for the country fair just after bank holiday. OH is finally being allowed ( ) to tow the van. We go there from Wednesday, and I'm working that morning so he's taking it there with his car and I'm meeting him there a couple of hours later. We always take both cars there as OH has to have his 4x4 for going up and down the hill. Can't wait
