I have owned my Bailey Pageant Bordeaux since purchasing it new in 2002. It has been serviced regularly since then by qualified caravan workshop engineers but, despite this, the brakes squeal terribly when the caravan is braking. The noise, at times can be horrendous!
I have spoken to my engineer on numerous occasions about this but he has failed to sort out the problem, despite stripping down and cleaning the shoes, drums etc., as did the company who sold me the caravan initially.
Is this an inherent problem with this caravan/model? Any other members experienced this ... solutions please?
Any sound is bassicly a vibration to make that sound!
The shoe's and their fitting kit, ie, steady springs etc should be renewed. You'l then find you wont get the brake squeal.
Thanks to all who have replied, so far.
Unfortunately, this caravan's brakes have squealed from its very first journey and, as stated, regular servicing (including replacement of some parts including pads) still fails to rectify the problem. Even if the pads and drums are cleaned, degreased etc. and pads lightly sanded it still doesn't stop the problem. If the pads are replaced they are fine for the first 20 or so miles and then the squeal is back.
I have been told (by a long serving AA mechanic) that removing part of the trailing edge of the pad could rectify the problem but I am reluctant to do this without others confirming that this could/should be done.
I have had Eldis and other Bailey caravans before and have never experienced this problem. Have I just been unlucky?
A caravan doesn't have brake pads they have brake shoes which fit inside the circular brake drum. Brake pads are only used with brake discs the same found on most cars which some are used on all four wheels and some just on the front with brake shoes on the rear.
