Hi guys newbie to this caravanning lark and just looking for a bit of advice and your expert opinion on my towing outfit ? (forgive my long post)
I have checked car owners guide (not listed anywhere) researched high and low finding various figures on different websites and ended up contacting nissan uk for accurate kerbweight. They informed me that kerbweight is the vehicle with essential fluids/lubricants and 1/3 tank of petrol (without driver or luggage)
Towcar: Nissan Juke Tekna 1.6 (2wd) CVT (auto) 2012 I know not the best towing vehicle in the world but when I chose this car last year the towing specs were the last thing I was interested in... lol Anyway, the stats are as follows:
kerbweight 1254 (no driver or luggage) max towing 1250
Caravan: Van Royce 470elt (1998)
Ex Works (assume = MIRO) 1085 MAW (assume = MTPLM) 1300
I've taken these figures from original owners handbook
So if I have understood things correctly in an ideal world I want the 85% match which is kerbweight 1254 x .85 = 1,065. My van MIRO = 1085 so not far out at 86%
However, this leaves very little/no allowance for extra pay load in the van. I obviously intend to load the van with minimal lightweight essentials (pillows/duvet/few clothes etc) and load the car with any additional heavier stuff to keep the van load down and increase tow car weight (also adding a driver & passenger) I have played about on the TowCar info calculator and after adding 100kg total payload to the van and 250kg to the car (inc driver & passenger) I'm getting a 94% ratio .....4 star rating with a 'good' overall saftey & stability for my outfit. As a total novice to towing would you guys say I am stretching things on the saftey front...... or is my outfit 'reasonable' ?
Thanks in anticipation (a stressed out newbie)
