We took our caravan along the A47 from Leicester to Norfolk for the first time towing we did stop off at a mcdonalds and its a good job it wasn't busy as if there was a few more cars we would of got stuck. We are going again and I think this time we'll stop in laybys and use the loo in the caravan. Also this time i'll remember to fill the car up without the caravan on !!!! what do you guys do?
How did the caravan fit through the drive through?.
------------- XVI yes?
As well is two words!
How does a sage know everything about everything? or does he? or does he just think he does?
Remember, if you buy something you bought it, not brought it.
It can be disconcerting when you know you need to stop for petrol ( or a Mccafe Frappe for the other half) I always fill up before hand to save awkward manouevers but sometimes it is necessary, look for the larger forecourts well before you need to fill up then you are not stressing last minute. Ive just put a rearview camera in my van see this Thread made a big difference to me.
this was at Swaffam it has a large carpark, we was ok this time and managed to turn around in there. Drive through would of been fun, only just managed the petrol station as it was empty lol
I usually check my proposed route using Google Earth. Any service stations etc. can be zoomed in on to check how things are laid out regarding parking, fuel, toilets. You will always know how far the next available pull-in is.
Always fill up solo. If refuel is needed en-route I do not pull into petrol station until I am happy I can get out again safely. I have stopped in Little Chef, supermarket car parks, motorway services, lay-bys, French Aires and never had trouble. When loos look or smell rough (!) or on expensive motorway services we use our vans facilities to make lunch and drinks but use their loos as long as they are free (not always the case in France). I see making a pic nick lunch as fun and another way to get maximum value from the van. Why pay high prices for poor food when you can pay low prices for great food from your own fridge!!
------------- Why am i doing this instead of camping??!!
i'll try google earth on the next un familar trip, a very good tip thank you, we have drove along the a47 for years but sometimes at the stops (which isn't many left) you can hardly get ur car in with all the other vans etc
When in france a lot of forecourts are very tight, a tip I use is if the exit of the forecourt is on the left you fill up on the right hand pump and vice verser so when you pull out to go the swing of the caravan won't hit the pump
