Towing tips. Avoid the M6/M5

Haynes do a caravan manual. Not a great deal of info in the owners manuals.

Fridges and cookers are fairly universal and dont need a lot of instructions.

Just keep asking questions, Very rare to find one that cannot be answered on here.

I talked my sister into buying a caravan, I picked it up and on the way back i pulled into the services and handed her the keys and said off you go then.

A few miles of fairly straight motorway to ease the nerves. I said just stick behind a lorry doing 56mph.

No need to overtake, No rush. Slow down with going down the hills where the caravan wants to push you down.
Power up the hills no problem. But slowly on the way down.

The greater the cars weight to the caravan the better. What are you towing it with? Worked out the towing ratio?

Just take your time. Enjoy the journey. Dont get flustered or panic.

Just check the gross train weight. The max tow weight maybe with an unladen car.

So add 200kg of people and luggage to the car and your max tow is reduced by 200kg.

Brilliant, that is exactly what I have, same car and same caravan, amazing! I too towed for the first time this August and I had to pick the windy day to do it! Slow and steady wins the race. The scenic doesn't have the power hence, the same as you, going for the light Alpine, so you couldn't do over 60mph even if you wanted to. Took mine back over Dartford bridge, if pulled well.

How are your electrics? I need some help, want to exchange ideas?
