Hi there
we are thinking of upgrading to a caravan, Our car is a Citroen Xsara Picasso 2005 2.0 HDI which has a towing capacity of 1300kg,but we have been told by a local caravan dealer not to go upto this but to stick to around 1100kg,can anyone recommend any vans that will be suitable please,we have set a budget of around £6000,and looking at vans of around year 2000 to 2006,and 4 berth.
Many thanks in advance....

I would agree that 1100kg is a sensible upper limit.
However, you will not find many sub 1100kg 4 berth 'vans in the age range you suggest. This is because they mostly come with bathrooms / toilets / kitchens and hot water as stsndard.
Try looking at the older Elldis Whirlwind and other models all named after winds.
Agreed re the Whirlwind. Great little 'vans, light but well-equipped. Only reason we traded ours was that OH wanted a separate shower. The Whirlwind otherwise has all the toys, eg blown air heating, hot water, full stove etc. Tows well too - ours was great behind our old Rover 45 TDi and extremely insignificant behind the Saab!

caravan weight needs to be at 85% of your cars kerb weight to be safe fully loaded.check towbar nose weight too as some are only 50 kgs, most are 75 kgs.(marked on towbar itself)
------------- the only silly question is the one you do not ask.

I think the adria altea is a lightweight van as is the baily ranger and discovery

We rather like the Bailey Ranger Bessie, we have seen one today at our local Dealer he put our cars details into the computer and he told us that our car would be able to tow it Ok,Have looked at nose weight on tow bar michael and that says 80kg.
