They all tend to be around £300 unless you go to a main dealer. Then probably much more.

I paid £480 for the towbar on my 12 plate Mondeo in June. It would have been less if I had not asked for it to be wired with a ford wiring loom.

For a licence dated 1997 or later you must add together the plated max weight of the caravan and trailer, if the total is 3500 or less you can tow it. You may even tow a caravan with a MAM greater than the cars unladen mass the restriction was removed in 2013

Well!! at last the Mondeo has arrived and very nice it is too! however I was passing my local tow centre today and they have been very good in the past but quoted me £650 for a detachable with twin electrics!! ouch!!
Wherever I go I need to ensure the cars software is updated etc as it's a lease car and I cannot afford to risk any warranty breaches, I wouldn't mind having a mobile fitter do it, any ideas?, recommendations for Preston/Blackpool area??

Try peter bowmans trailer and towbar centre in Bolton. They do a really good job. However, if you want it fitted with an original wiring loom plus the updates you need to ask for it. As I said on my titanium 140 it cost me £480 for a fixed towbar with original loom from Peter Bowman.

you will be looking at circa £400 for a fixed, and £500 for detachable as you will require a dedicated wiring kit.
Be careful as many are not clear on what they use, and the majority offering cheaper tow bar fits are using scotch locks and by pass kits which can cause issues with the computers on modern cars and invalidate your warranty.
I spent a long time researching this for my company A4, that cost £490 fitted for a Westfalia detachable 13 pin

As it is a lease car I assume you have notified the lease company and have written permission, my last company car was a lease vehicle and the leasing company would not allow an after fit towbar, only one factory fitted when the car was built If you use an independent fitter any electrical/electronic issues attributable to the towbar fitment will not be covered by the warranty

On my last car they just said as long as the car is returned with a proper towbar or in original condition its fine. My local fitter did warn me about ensuring the electrics were done correctly to avoid voiding the warranty. The main problem I have with the cost is that I have the car for four years and I need to ensure its worthwhile as we only used the van once last year!

i'm in the same boat, we only keep our cars for 2 years!
My co own the car so permission not an issue either, one thing to consider is a good tow bar has a residual value once removed so can be sold on ebay.
We use our van 10/12 times a year including 3 week summer holiday so worth the investment.

It cost £375 for a fixed witter with 13 pin electrics and dedidcated wiring + ECU reprogramming via the Ford main dealer we bought the Smax off.
From what i can gather they did it at cost as it was a through a car sale therefore avoided any markup as they subbed it out to a local towbar fitter.

Now that's interesting because I got a price from a guy who fits them for 3 local ford dealers and it was £385 for a detachable but with a bypass kit not ford wiring, he re-assured me this is fine with the warranty, now I'm confused!! I think I'll call in a the ford dealer for advice.

sproz i am in the exact same situation as yourself with the exact same car.
what i have been thinking of doing is going to pfjones in manchester and buying a ford oem towbar (westfalia) fixed swan neck is just over £116 and full detachable just over £165 they also sell a dedicated loom and module for £90, which i have been told by westfalia is what ford rebadge as there own and yeh it does need programmed but pf jones can do it at there store or can send out a mobile fitter to do the job for £70 better than fords £96.38 + vat.
and the thing is pf jones are willing to give total support fitting it myself which saves on fitting cost so for £335 you can fit a full ford oem system not void your warrenty if you do decide this then give me a shout i am only over in blackburn

Well in the end I popped into a dealer and asked them about the warranty, no problem fitting a bypass kit so ended up with a detachable (needed to be due to parking sensors) and the guys who did it also fit them for the dealer, all in all a good job but the 395 was plus vat! So a little peed off with that surprise!
