Decided against the Chevrolet Captiva. Will prob stick with Kia or Hyundai.
My present Sportage, 2L CRDI ,power 138 BHP,Torque 225lbs ft.
New Sportage.             2L CRDI, power 134 BHP, Torque 236 lbs ft.
Will I notice any difference when towing ? Van is 1475kg.
Also my present Sportage has a Kerbweight of 1760kg giving a ratio of 84% with my van.
New Sportage has Kerbweight of 1600kg ....ratio 92%. hmmm.
However ,the Kia spec list states min Kerb weight 1600kg.
                                                       max Kerb weight 1754kg both in the same column for the same model.
I asked the salesman at Kia what it meant and he didn't know.
So, if I use the 1754 figure I have a healthier 84% ratio.
Any comments welcome.

But it appears not to weigh 1754kg.

It does appear that the new one is a fair bit lighter than the older model.

84 - 92 is not a huge margin. Its only if something nasty happened that you may think i wish it was a bit heavier.
But 150kg isnt a lot.

Time for a declutter in the van and bring its weight down?

I think the weight loss is why they are better on the emissions down from a J to a G.

What puzzles me is why have a min and max kerb weight and what do they mean?

According to Kia Customer Support this is the definition of their terms:

Minimum kerb weight - This is the standard weight of the vehicle excluding passengers, luggage and fuel.

Maximum kerb weight – refers to the standard weight of highest spec model.

 

Gross vehicle weight – is the standard weight of the vehicle including passengers, luggage and fuel.

 

Can the top spec model really be that much heavier?

You can get 2WD or AWD Sportages, there is also a 184 bhp model (KX4). AWD will be heavier and better for towing.

All the 2litre Sportages are AWD..
In the Specs list they give a min and max kerbweight for every model.
