Why turn them off, they only work when you engage reverse

They 'see' the van close behind and emits a loud distracting noise just when you are trying to concentrate on a reverse maneuver.

They do that even without the van when you park

I have heard conflicting reports of where some say that an ordinary flange tow bar will set off your rear parking sensors when nothing is being towed. As all have said, the dedicated loom will prevent this when towing, but the ball itself can be interpreted as an impending obstacle when not towing. The answer to this seems to be to go for the more expensive swan neck or the even more expensive detachable.

On the converse, there are those who say the flange ball doesn't interfere with sensors at all.

Something to think about though isn't it?

Yeah, but not continually from the off Bob, they ramp up as an indication of how close you are to the object behind a function that is helpful.

We have a standard tow ball fitted. When its was fitted they asked if we had reversing sensors. Apparently they can fit the tow ball so it doesn't constantly set off the reverse warning sound. Also the Kia Sportage has a switch to disengage the reverse sound when reversing with a trailer

I've just had a fixed flange towbar with alko towball fitted to my focus estate today.

I now have a very small and neat switch in the boot to turn the reversing sensors off when towing.

Sensors seem to be fine though not done much reversing yet. Went to a towbar specialist recommended by the local ford dealer. Double electrics are tucked just to one side and underneath the car a bit to make sure they don't interfere either.

I did have to ask around to find someone that could give me a straight answer regarding towbars and reversing sensors though.
