Hi please don't scare the pants off me now. I have just bought a Zafira 1.9cdti design 07 plate 120 bhp. This is replacing a 90bhp Citroen Picasso 20hdi. I have the same caravan as was towed with the pic 1045kgs max 875kgs unladen. Can anyone tell me if they tow with a Zafira of this model, and what can I expect. Also will I need to modify it in any way (Gearbox oil) or anything like that before I can tow with it, only I read different thing about different cars or does that only apply to automatics. Thanks

Changing the gearbox oil will help it last longer. Its been in there for 7 years and done how many miles.
Imagine your engine oil after that length of time. Dont use additives etc. Just an oil change and a general good service all around.
I would like to say its a horrible and not to buy one. But i nearly bought one a little while back.
It may have been the older shape to yours? 04/05?
The problem was its tow capacity or total lack of a decent one. 1050kg...
No good when my van fairly lightweight at 1150kg.
I think yours is 1300kg though? Treble check that should be on the V5C.
Also check the gross train weight.
Other than that a modern diesel with 120bhp and 200ft/lb of torque will tow it up the hills even if the wheels fell off.

Its done 55,000 miles, lol I did ask you not to scare the pants off me seeing as I HAVE bought one. It seems to drive very well and 30 more bhp than the pic I had.
Will check but I have read that the max towing weight is 1300 kgs so I should be well under with a max weight of 1045kgs. Thanks for your help

Apparently ours is 190 bhp
But we've had no probs towing and seen similar cars on site with much bigger vans.
Skoda - it's because of "kids" we are driving our Vauxhall shed on wheels and towing another shed with it!!!!!
If it wasn't for the kids we might be in the Caribbean and driving a Aston Martin

We don't tow with ours, but the Zafira is a veritable work horse. We have been all over in ours, including North East France, and plan to do Bordeaux this summer. We think it actually drives better with a heavy load! It's great on fuel when fully loaded too, much better than its urban MPG.
Word of warning though; do a quick search on Zafira diesels, they come with quite a poor reputation from what I can gather; the petrol versions are the more reliable.

Don't get me wrong - I love our Zafira and really pleased with. Would defo get one again:
Just if we were flash gits without any kids and didn't need to tow, then we wouldn't have one, would we??
