Is it best to use A1/A69, or would the B roads be ok? These look to cut off a corner, but I don't want to give OH nightmares.

Be less stressful, and possibly quicker going A1/A69. stick the cruise control to 56 Mph and you'll be there soon enough!

We go that route from Haltwhistle up to Dunstan,good roads all the way, but not dualled everywhere.

A1 and A69.

DO NOT use the B roads, they're not worth it if you're going to be towing, far too bendy and twisty, even solo in some places.

They're only good for if you're solo, got a lot longer and want a scenic route, and on two wheels instead.

On a map, it looks like you're cutting a corner off, believe me, you're not. Done both routes many times in a truck and the A1 / A69 is way easier.

I always thought it was 50 on single carriageway and 60 on dual and motorways??

I generally set my cruise to 56 for duals and motorways!! I like to keep a bit extra for overtaking wagons if needed, just my way.

A1/A69 is mostly dual carriageway. Most trucks do 56 MPH, so it is less stressful I find to just keep up with the trucks in the inside lane. If you are crawling past a truck at 60 in the outside lane, then someone is bound to come hareing up behind at 70+ MPH
